Sony Mobiles Highlights

Headquartered in Konan, Minato, Tokyo, Sony Group Corporation – or more commonly referred to as Sony – is a Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation with expertise in making some of the best entertainment products in the Indian market. It was founded in May 1946 and was originally called Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo, Ltd. Therefore, given the brand’s experience, it comes across as one of the few big players in the industry. This is what makes Sony one of India’s largest manufacturers of mobile phones, feature phones, and other interesting products.

Sony Mobile Communications Inc., on the other hand, was founded as a joint venture between Sony Group Corporation and Ericsson, with its headquarters situated in Tokyo, Japan. Founded in 2001, the JV lasted till 2012, as of result of which many Sony phones were released under the Sony Ericsson name. The first Sony Ericsson smartphone was dubbed the Sony Ericsson P800 launched in 2002. The first batch of Sony mobiles ran on Symbian OS, followed by Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system. Going forward, Sony stuck with the Android OS for its range of Xperia smartphones. This has been the case since 2012 when the Sony new mobile Xperia X10 was launched featuring Android OS.

The most interesting Sony smartphone yet has to be the Xperia Play, which was the first PlayStation certified phone from the manufacturer. This meant that the Xperia Play owners had portable access to PlayStation mobile games. Just like that, there have been many occasions where Sony has brought its expertise in entertainment to its smartphones, making its mobile phones one of the most fetching products in the Indian market.
