Formerly known as Alcatel OneTouch – or Alcatel Mobile phones – Alcatel is a Chinese/French smartphone manufacturer, which is owned by the popular Finnish consumer electronics maker Nokia. As a result, it has its headquarters in both Nanterre, France and Shenzhen, China. Moreover, it is under license to the Chinese electronic giant TCL Technology. As a company, it was founded in 1996, but the brand only got its license in 2005.

The one that managed to grab the interest of many consumers was the Alcatel A5 LED, the brand’s first Android smartphone with an "interactive LED-covered phone". It was launched during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in 2017.
