The other day, Google released an upgrade to its brand-new Pixel series, much to the delight-and increasingly, annoyance many users. They brought in one feature akin to the Apple iPhone, a 'non-removable battery health system.' From that moment onwards, you can hardly check or change your battery status on your Pixel phone anymore.

What Does The New Feature Do Now on the Google Pixel?

So, after the last updates, the battery health status has been locked in and can be accessed through software only, just like they do with Apple. Furthermore, if the battery is changed, the phone will determine if it is 'real' and may lock out functionalities for the end user if it is not genuine.

This battery health feature has great similarity to the iPhone track of a so-called battery validation system, in which a warning appears not long after battery change: Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery. Most tech analysts consider this a move by Google against user options and the 'Right to Repair' movement.

What's the Problem?

Users have long felt able to change any parts of the phone by themselves. This new feature, however, will work against that effort. Where pocket problems should be solved with pocket-money fixes, it instead forces the user to get a whole new phone, extremely costly to say the least, and very bad for the environment.

Still A Ray of Hope?

Yes, there is not much lost hope. Depending on user input, in the past, it has backed up some of its decisions. The "Right to Repair" laws are getting stronger every day in Europe and America, bringing much more transparency and user-friendly decision-making for the larger tech firms.

This feature is highly controversial presently, but if Google, Apple, and the rest do not fix things soon, the voice of users-somewhat forcefully backed by legality-will come to haunt them in a freer system of technology.

Google Pixel battery features and battery health are limited, like the iPhone is pretty annoying to many. However, technology users still have a little push, and they may change things in the future through their combined efforts.
