WWE finally decided to introduce a fresh mid card division for the women's roster by introducing to mid card championship for two of their separate brands, SmackDown and RAW. This is the first time WWE introduced the mid card championships for the main roster of the promotion.
Later last year, they started two 12 women tournaments for each brand to Crown the first ever Women's Intercontinental Champion and Women's United States Champion. Monday Night RAW got the IC title and and SmackDown got the US title. There were four triple threat matches in the first rounds of each tournament; the winners of each match would qualify for the semi finals.
How Lyra Valkyria felt when she got to know that she is winning the IC title
The two finalists of the IC Championship tournament were Dakota Kai and Lyra Valkyria. The ID professional wrestler went on to win the tournament and also became the inaugural WWE Women's IC Champion. Valkyria recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet on his "Insight" Podcast, where she explained how it felt when she got to know that she is winning the Championship,

“Amazing. I couldn’t believe it. I really couldn’t believe it. But things don’t hit me when I think they’re going to. I always say that it never hits me in the moment. It hit me when I was driving home and taking my bags out of the car on the Tuesday.

"The title is just sitting in my bag, the zip opens, and I’m like, Oh yeah, that’s the Intercontinental Championship. I won that. I brought that home. That’s when it hits me.” said the present and the inaugural WWE Women's Intercontinental Champion.

So far, the women's Intercontinental Championship has not received a very strong booking, but after Becky Lynch got involved in a title feud with Valkyria after WrestleMania 41, the prestige of the title has started to increase. Hopefully, it gets treated like a proper mid card title like it should be.
