Much like the sports entertainment world of WWE, the video games based on it are also very famous among gamers. The first ever video game based on WWE, produced back in 1987, MicroLeague Wrestling was released for Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, and DOS. Since then, there have been countless numbers of WWE video games.
Presently, it is 2K that is producing the WWE games. But THQ had been more famous for producing the WWE games for over 15 years. They have produced some amazing series of WWE games like the WWE SmackDown series and The SmackDown vs RAW series.

Is this forgotten WWE video game mode still relevant today
Unlike 2K which did not like to do much experience with the WWE video game these days, THQ was always up to something new, and they always wanted to introduce new features to the game. But you will see the 2K games a quite similar to each other and they are not in favour of making experiments.
Road to WrestleMania mode was quite popular in WWE video games previously
One of the short lived modes of the WWE games under 2K was the Road to WrestleMania mode that was introduced back in 2008 in the SmackDown vs RAW 2009 video game. It used to have five or six different storylines with different characters. Usually, the story lasted 3 months and showed a short build up for WrestleMania storylines.

The mode is not available in WWE video games anymore
Unlike the season mode in story mode like the previous games, you could not select wrestlers of your choice in these modes. There are a number of wrestlers who were already bound to each storyline, and you had to play with those selected wrestlers only.
This mode featured for four back to back years only, and THQ introduced a different type of story mode in WWE 13 which replaced the Road to WrestleMania mode. It was the Attitude Era, and in WWE 2K14, they introduced 30 years of WrestleMania. After 2K took over, they totally erased such story modes and only kept the Career Mode.

Erasing the story modes is somehow making the offline experience of WWE video games a little boring. 2K needs to consider bringing back. Road to Wrestlemania can also be a welcoming addition to the modern WWE 2K games, much like many other removed features.
