According to reports, after seeing the immense success of WWF No Mercy, THQ decided to launch a sequel of this video game by the title WWF Backlash in 2001. Reports also suggest that the game was supposed to portray the invasion angle that went on throughout 2001. This could have been the first ever professional wrestling game where gamers could play as WWE, WCW, and ECW players in one single game officially.

Unfortunately, WWF backlash could never see the daylight, and it was cancelled after 30% of completion. It is widely believed that WWF Backlash would have been better than WWF No Mercy, and it could be remembered as the best WWE video game ever.,
