The electric car giant is once again in the news. Reports and tech wear watchers have it that Tesla is now developing support for the iPhone Car Key feature of Apple Wallet. This means convenience and another benefit to a Tesla owner who also happens to be an iPhone user.
The Car Key function within Apple's Wallet allows the user to lock, unlock, or start the user's car using an iPhone or Apple Watch. Currently, this technology is supported only by very few carmakers-BMW, Hyundai, Kia, and Mercedes-Benz, to name a few-and, so far, Tesla has not been included.

What is iPhone Car Key?
The iPhone Car Key is simply Apple's brand of a digital key system meant to use the near-field communication (NFC) method and that of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, fairly clearly not requiring any physical key or standalone application. The other option would be to allow a digital key stored in Apple Wallet to unlock a car door or lock it.
If Tesla were to enable this function, people would be able to unlock their cars directly through Apple Wallet. It adds yet another layer of user-friendliness, and in so doing, the user really feels like he or she is part of the ecosystem.
What would be the reason for Tesla to want to gain entry into this support?
Further, Tesla is a company whose concept seems quite futuristic from the aesthetics of the name itself, as it really talks about advanced technologies and software-based solutions. The cars of Tesla, however, at present work over the Phone Key over Bluetooth. So, Apple Car keys Wallet is about 100 times more secure and more reliable, or at least that is the assumption.
From Apple's point of view, though, the UWB would be providing enhanced security but with no chances of accidental unlocking or hacking. That could be something on which Tesla would be keen to keep an eye for an adoption very soon.
When is it expected to happen?
As far as official announcements are concerned, Apple and Tesla have made none so far. However, with the loads of code running alongside some hints dropped in iOS updates, many speculate their support might arrive in some soft update sometime in the future.

Conclusion
To conclude, it would be beautiful if Tesla implemented support for the iPhone Car Key support to Apple Wallet. It would stand to gain much in terms of convenience and speed up the development of modern smart car technology. Well, now we will just sit and wait for Tesla to announce this feature.
