Spotify has always worked for the benefit of the users. A lot of changes have been made recently to give users more control over the Discover Weekly playlist depending on their preferences. This new change would grant greater personalization to the user experience and help the user reverse the acceptance of unwanted songs.

Discover Weekly; The Way it Was-How it is New

The songs arranged in the Spotify Discover Weekly playlist every week are determined by an algorithm based on the user's preferences. Any direct intervention by the user in compiling this list has been, until now, out of the question. Many users who listen to music every day complained that certain songs kept turning up or they had to listen to songs they really disliked. So it really gets on their nerves.

Now, Spotify has replaced this with a system of buttons labeled 'Like' or 'Don't Like' next to each song on the playlist of Discover Weekly. A user can effectively abandon songs he does not like by pressing the 'Don't Like' button for now and the system would not present such songs thereafter. In a similar fashion, songs can be 'Liked' by the user who would also, in turn, serve the purpose of better recommendation of great songs in the future from the algorithmic perspective.

Benefits of Spotify Users:

This new control scheme is more likely to become user-friendly for Spotify. Those who make regular use of Discover Weekly may now fashion such list according to their likes or otherwise, thus enhancing the enjoyment of their listening experience.

This change will also make the algorithm that implements machine learning work better since user ratings will feed directly into the algorithm. In essence, the more you ‘Like’, and the more you ‘Don’t Like’, the more accurate your playlist will be.
