Recently, WWE released a number of wrestlers to adjust their budget, some of the wrestlers that were removed from the squad had been regular stars of the weekly shows like Smackdown and RAW. Sonya Deville was also a regular who appeared regularly on the episodes of RAW as the leader of the Pure Fusion Collective faction.

When Sonya Deville revealed the reason behind her WWE release, she had to face criticism from the fans. She said that she was having a negotiation with WWE over her contract extension. Some fans criticized her for ‘negotiating’ over her contract extension since she was not a big draw in WWE and the fans thought she should have agreed on whatever WWE was offering her.

Sonya Deville Claims She Did Not Ask For A Huge Sum of Money To Extend Her WWE Contract

However, Deville claimed that she did not offer any big sum of money to extend her WWE contract. The former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion has already expressed her disappointment on getting released by WWE multiple times. Recently, she appeared on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, she said;

Sonya Deville was active in WWE for nearly a decade

“That’s the weird part. I’m all for a release when you’ve been sat home for two, three months, you kind of feel it coming, you feel that knot in your stomach and you’re waiting for the Connecticut number to come up on your phone. But that wasn’t the case.”

“We were featured heavily in the Royal Rumble, my faction, PFC. We had a great showing, and it was booked that way. So I really had no idea, and we were in the middle of negotiating for a new contract because mine was coming to its expiration. So everything was seemingly going good. So yeah, I was definitely shocked.”

Sonya Deville was released for WWE back in last February

“I’d like to preface this with, when we were in negotiations, it was not a scenario where I was like, I’m worth $5 million dollars and they came back with, ‘Screw you.’ The numbers we were talking were very humble. I know what all the other women get paid, we all talk, and so it wasn’t anything like that. It was very much so just the end of a contract, let’s talk about what’s next. I kind of knew my worth and where I stood on the card at that moment and asked for [it] accordingly.”

Sonya Deville’s release has also sparked controversies as a number of fans were quite unhappy with this decision. WWE recently introduced a proper mid card division for women with two mid card titles. Deville could have been an excellent fit for this newly introduced mid card division.
