LG was once one of Samsung's biggest rivals in the smartphone market. Yet, it slipped into obscurity and has now taken the final steps that marks the end of its long and eventful journey.

LG no longer has anything to do with its defunct smartphone business
The smartphone business is ruthless. Many companies that dominated the game at one point are now nowhere to be found today. Only those that have relentlessly innovated and managed to capture the essence of what the market desires have survived.
How it all started and then went downhill
Back in the mid to late 2000s companies like Nokia, HTC, BlackBerry dominated the market. They made great devices, experimented with new ideas, and were fiercely competitive.
Yet somewhere along the way as the transition began and quirky smartphone features gave way to a more refined approach, and funky designs phased out for a more uniform slab like structure and a stable software with update became the norm, these tech giants failed to keep up with it.
The acquisition of Nokia's smartphone business by Microsoft turned out to be a disaster, BlackBerry never really found its footing despite eventually turning to Android, and HTC was one of the most recognisable smartphone brands of the day with the One Series with Sense UI which paved way for the modern day interface that we use today. But surely and slowly they lost their way and faded into oblivion.
Samsung grew to define South Korean dominance in the smartphone market, LG just couldn't keep up. It ultimately decided to completely exit the smartphone market globally, incuding India on July 2021. Its phones had already become scarce in most parts of the world by then, but it did still have some presence in South Korea.

The Final Exit
LG has now stopped providing any support for its devices. It will no longer supply new spare parts, software updates, or provide any after-sales service such as repairs through official channels, even in South Korea. The rare user who still holds on to a LG Phone would finally have to jump the ship as the last straw is drawn.
