Gradual decline of S Pen:

Last week Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 was launched, and it’s a stunning piece of hardware. It is the slimmest fold that has come out from the house of Samsung, and with this device Samsung in finally catching up with the Chinese firms who are hardware wise far ahead of the curve. But to slash those millimetres they had to ditch the much loved accessory support – the S Pen.

All the previous versions of Galaxy Z fold had the digitizer but this time it was shaved off to get the thin and sleek form factor. Previously we had also seen limiting S-Pen’s capabilities in their premium S25 Ultra.

Speculations:

There is a cult following of the Samsung S Pen. Some people love it, some don’t even bother for it. And the portion that does, it is an indespensable part of their daily life. The way Samsung is moving forward and slowly turning away from prioritizing the stylus. And thus many had feared the worst – that the beginning of the end of the S-Pen was here.

Fortunately, it doesn't look like that is the case. According to a report from the Korean outlet, ETnews, which suggests that the S-Pen could be subjected to a similar slimming treatment that the Z Fold 7 was given this time out. And that would be necessity if the stylus has to fit within the frame.

Positive vibes:

The report quotes a Samsung executive, who says, "We are also researching and developing thinner and innovative technologies for the S Pen, so we will reconsider it when the level of perfection increases and there is consumer demand.”

This report seems like the most concrete suggestion yet that the favours the sentiment of retaining the stylus, and has a ring of promise for long-term future, which will certainly appease those with a soft spot for it
