The Redmi Pad 2 has just been launched in India, and is available for for a starting price of Rs 13,999. It offers a 11 inch LCD display, Mediatek Helio G100 Ultra chipset, 9,000mAh battery, upto 18W of charging support, Quad speakers and support for Stylus. Redmi claims it had designed and developed the device keeping in mind the ever evolving needs of users – entertaintment, learning and everyday productivity.

Design and Build:
Redmi Pad 2 comes with a simple minimalistic look like any other budget tablet. The dual-tone accent, running vertically from the top-left positioned camera module, adds a bit of flair to the overall design. The brand has integrated a pill-shaped camera module that houses a 8 MP f/2.0 lens and blends seamlessly into the design. The tablet itself is entirely made of plastic with flat edges and a metallic finish. Depending on the connectivity variant, the tablet weighs either 510 grams or 519 grams, quite reasonable considering its large 9,000mAh battery. Its slim 7.4mm profile makes it easy to carry around.
Support for Stylus – The Redmi Smart Pen
Redmi Pad 2 supports the Redmi Smart Pen, which does not come with the package but has to bought separately for Rs 3,999. The stylus connects via Bluetooth v5.1 and remains paired unless Bluetooth is manually turned off on the tablet. The Pen charges via a Type-C cable and promises to offer up to 12 hours of continuous writing. Users can monitor the Pen’s battery level and even rename it through the tablet’s Bluetooth menu. The Smart Pen is roughly the same height as a standard pencil, its weight is well-balanced, offering a comfortable and natural writing experience, the pen glides smoothly across the screen, whether you’re writing or sketching.
The only con is unlike higher end tablets which have magnets to the sides to keep the pen attached when at rest, the Pad 2 does not have any such mechanism, you’d have to keep it separately.
Display and Audio:
The Redmi Pad 2 features an 11-inch IPS LCD display with a 2.5K resolution (2,560 x 1,600), a refresh rate of up to 90Hz, and a peak brightness of 600 nits. It gets sufficiently bright for comfortable viewing indoors. Colours appear vibrant, and is great for content watching. It has Widevine L1 certification which allows users to watch content upto Full HD on various streaming platforms, but it does not support HDR content.
For audio, the Pad 2 is equipped with quad speakers that support Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio. The speakers are loud enough to fill a room. The tab offers flexible audio options, allowing users to customise sound settings and use both wired and wireless earphones and features a 3.5mm headphone jack for traditional audio gear, along with Bluetooth v5.3 for stable wireless connectivity.

Software and Performance:
Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2 skin is layered on top of Android 15 out of the box. There is no word on future software updates for the Redmi Pad 2 yet. The software experience is similar to Redmi and Xiaomi smartphones
Pad 2 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G100 Ultra SoC, and comes with 4GB, 6GB and 8GB RAM and upto 256GB of ROM. The storage is further expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card. The device is avbailable in both Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + 4G cellular variants.
Here comes the catch: The tablet provides a smooth performance for everyday use, but the entry level and budget friendly 4GB variant lags and has serious RAM management issues. To get the best performance you’d have to buy the top end 8GB version which comes for Rs 17,999, but for that price you have other options available like the base model of Xiaomi Pad 6 which offers some premium specs in some ascpects.
