At the Saturday Night’s Main Event PLE past Saturday, Cody Rhodes defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against the former WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion Kevin Owens. Cody successfully defended the championship on the main event of the show.

At this event, Cody brought back the famous vintage Winged Eagle WWE Championship for one night only. But after the match, Owens attacked Cody and took him out with a Packaged Pile Driver. Owens took away the Winged Eagle WWE Championship title after the assault.

As soon as the show ended, rumors started to speculate that the Winged Eagle WWE Championship will start appearing regularly on the episodes of SmackDown. Owens had been rumored to appear with the Winged Eagle Championship as an official champion. Looks like the rumors are coming true.

Owens recently declared himself to be the real champion and he also announced that he will also defend the Winged Eagle Championship. The former WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion wrote on his X / Twitter recently, where he made the claim that he is the real WWE Champion of the promotion;

I am proud to officially announce that I will be competing in my first matches as your new, true WWE Champion on this year’s Holiday loop (that’s a term people in “the business” use that refers to a string of consecutive shows in different cities over a short period of time) starting in Jacksonville on the 26th, followed by 3 more shows in Florida and then one in Detroit for some reason. Be there to witness history! Oh, the Raw crew has shows too. Whatever,” wrote Owens.

Clearly, WWE wants to capitalize on the fame of the Winged Eagle Championship. If this titles appears regularly on free television, it will become a high selling item on WWE Shop. Surely, it will unify with the present Undisputed WWE Championship sooner or later, and maybe Cody Rhodes will take both at the same time.
