Quite an apparent divide always remained between Apple and Samsung users whenever it came to device compatibility. The Samsung Galaxy Watch was a truly commendable smartwatch, but no or very limited support was extended for its use by Apple users. However, there are now rumors that the iPhone might begin supporting the aforementioned Galaxy Watches.

How would the Samsung Galaxy Watch work on the iPhone, then?

Samsung has launched some software updates on its newly released Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra series that might now potentially support limited compatibility with Apple phones. This means the users can have access to some of their Galaxy Watch features through an iPhone.

Not quite, though, as these are the major catches. Advanced features of the Galaxy Watch, such as health and fitness tracking, ECG, and blood pressure monitoring, may not work in tandem with the Apple handsets. Mainly at first, it would be notifications, time-checking, basic tracking, perhaps some customized watch faces.

Reasons behind It?

There are two reasons primarily as to why that is a limitation.

Restrictions within the Apple Ecosystem: Apple always throws a wrench in the works when it tries to let other devices communicate with itself as it wants. They want the users to use an Apple Watch.

Software of Samsung Watch: It uses One UI and a modified version of Wear OS, which is not completely compatible with iOS.

Future Prospects

According to some analysts, it is suggested that Samsung will gradually introduce much more compatibility with iOS in consideration of user needs, while the company is largely dependent on whatever policies Apple adopts.

If the Galaxy Watch truly does get some support on the iPhone, it could change the way forward for the smartwatch industry, but all this would have to be kept in mind, along with limited support and no full-fledged features being expected out of the box whatsoever.
