The new versions of the software were heralded by Apple announcements in June at its WWDC, and usually they are released along with a new iPhone in or around September.
If Apple follows such a tradition, like in most years, the announced date would be on or between September 16-20, 2025, with a beta for developers being opened in June 2025.

The new update will be compatible with certain iPhones, while older versions will have to fade out step by step. Yet, the expectation is that the update will be included for those falling under the iPhone 12 series and later versions.
