Localizing Production Is A Very Small Step

Hindalco, a brand associated with the Aditya Birla Group, is known very well in the aluminum-making and conversion business. It is going to set up a state-of-the-art iPhone chassis manufacturing unit at Kazipet, Andhra Pradesh, the primary activities of which will be producing aluminum bodies and other components required for making Apple iPhones.

This initiative would further enhance the 'Make in India' program by Apple and subsequently provide local job opportunities.

Investment to the Tune of ₹2,200 Crore

Currently, about ₹2,200 crore ($265 million) would be invested under this project. It would significantly enhance the economy of Andhra Pradesh while further challenging India's position in the global technology arena. The proposed factory at Hindokola is expected to produce around 35,000 tonnes of chassis per annum.

Employment and Skill Development of Hindalco

Approximately 10,000 jobs are expected to be created through this initiative, along with many other training and skill development programs for many more motivated local youth. This bears similarity to some initiatives of the Andhra Pradesh government and the central government related to local manufacturing and jobs.

This new initiative by Hindalco will secure an important foothold for India in the global technology supply chain. It will thereby greatly aid the advancement of the Indian manufacturing sector, along with the socio-economic development of Andhra Pradesh. India can expect to see an increasing number of such initiatives in the near future as global technological giants weigh their options for a manufacturing base.
