The Indian central govt has issued a secret directive by which, within the next three months, all new models of smartphones currently being imported or manufactured in India-Apple, Samsung, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Oppo- will have the Sanchar Saathi app designed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) pre-installed at the system-level. Moreover, it has to be noted that this application will not be uninstallable.
The directive is issued by Govt on November 28, 2025, and the applications should be included in every new smartphone produced or imported. At the same time, it will also be made available on phones that have already been released into the market through a software.

Why this decision taken by Govt? - Benefits
IMEI based security and anti-theft:
Sanchar saathi app by central govt is mainly used to determine the unofficial or counterfeit poses by IMEI but to block stolen telephones and lost telephones. All the user should do to disable his lost or stolen phone from coming back into a network for any use is to get it registered in the application.
Name Dropper/SIM Control:
Fraud happens most of the time through multiple SIMs/connection under someone else's name. With this application, the user will find out how many connections are there under his name. If he finds any suspicious, he could report it.
Protect against fake/illegal phones or unauthorized sellings of such phones:
Genuine etc can find out by proper IMEI verification whether the phone is genuine, stolen-listed or not- thus preventing misuse of confidential information.
The Sanchar Saathi app by govt has already rescued dozens of phones, blocked dozens of fake phones, and stolen ones, and, thus, has reached its headway toward categorization as a successful one.
What it will have effects for in users: the pluses and negatives
Plus points of Sanchar Saathi by central govt
* Quite simple- if you buy a new phone, it's paired with Sanchar Saathi; you need not activate it extra.
* A lost or stolen phone can be reported by the user in one click by which the phone networks will de-activate.
* It brings an additional layer of protection against noise or illegal use regarding SIMs or connections.
* Fear of buying fake/stolen phones would not be there as IMEI verification is simple.
The Downsides of Sanchar Saathi and Questions
Single breach of privacy and allowances of an individual
Many question: will the application system occupy mandatory space in the whole phone without the user's knowledge that he/she uses government applications?
Reverse 2 fold challenge of 2 platforms-
Apple, especially, has its own policies that would again create conflict to preinstall such applications.
Absence of upfront Generosity
This was a secret movement of this directive and was communication to the public in the end.

Conclusion:
New-age smart phone security but questions of privacy remain.
Sanchar Saathi offers every cell phone buyer the comfort of security in terms of blocking stolen phones, controlling numbers and guarding against fake handsets. Acceptance will differ depending on usability, commitment to privacy and acceptance by the users. This issue in 2025 may change quite a lot in smartphone usage in the future.
