The 2FA Verification Is Going To Be Obsolete For Increasing Security

The intention is to reduce scammers and fraudsters in Gmail due to the 2FA verification through SMS. Google wanted to shift from this and increase security during verification that Ross Richendrfer, head of security and privacy public relations in the company confirmed.

Richard confirmed that “Just like we want to move past passwords with the use of things like passkeys, we want to move away from sending SMS messages for authentication.”

QR Code Is Expected To Increase Security And Prevent Data Breach

There will be a remerging of security verification process in the coming months that can help to shift from texting six-digit codes over SMS to sending a QR code that a user would verify to eliminate the phone carriers as the possible point of breach to increase security.

Richendrfer says, “SMS codes are a source of heightened risk for users – we're pleased to introduce an innovative new approach to shrink the surface area for attackers and keep users safe from malicious activity.” Gmail users are going to experience a QR-based verification soon as per the official update.
