Contra was one of the biggest sensations of the late 80s and early 90s, and it is hard to believe that any NES fan did not have a Contra Cartridge in their collection. It was an example of the superiority of 8 bit side scrolling platformer. It set the standard so high that every other game felt lame compared to it.

The first part was released back in 1987, and the game was so good that everyone fell in love with it so quickly. It is still believed to be one of the prime examples of what side scrolling platformers should look like. In less than a year's time, they believed Super C in January 1988.

Super C felt like a true sequel to the first part, as it never looked like a different part, but some extended missions. The two games were really identical, but they were so fun to play differently, and it is still considered one of the best pairs of video games in NES history.

After the arrival of 16 bit, Konami released two more titles of the franchise named The Alien Wars and Hard Corps for Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, respectively. Both of the video games were awesome, and they were true to their 8 bit predecessors.

But after these two games, the magic of this franchise was somehow lost. Konami tried to create a new game for the series every now and then, but the experiment never worked, even when some of the titles for really good, like Shattered Soldier for PlayStation 2, which was a 2.5D side scrolling platformer. The game was quite good, but the fans did not accept it.

Recent rumours are suggesting that Konami is finally working on a shocking AAA project of Contra, and this title is going to break the barriers with a possible Third Person Shooter similar to Gears of War or Dead Space. As of now, this is all rumours and no confirmation, but such a title would be a welcome addition, and surely, the fans would love it if made properly.
