Well, watch how it will be built for iPhone 18, something they haven't done in Apple for 2019.

iPhone 18: The path it wants to take in making a change

Rumors have it that the iPhone 18 will not actually be bringing another model into the world, but will instead start off some new calendar year of launches altogether.

This was advanced primarily for the idea that the launching of different models could be staggered; thus, premium models such as the iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max or the first foldable iPhone would be out by 2026, while the base iPhone 18 and 18e would be released in 2027. If such a plan were to go forth, then Apple would break its almost 15-year tradition of launching all models at the same time.

This change the brand hasn't done ever since way back in 2019 (when it brought in slight changes into the iPhone launch system).

So why is Apple doing this?

Market competition:

Today, the speed with which the phone industry is evolving is surpassing all previous benchmarks.

So many competitors are sending out new models, and when all models are launched, older-cheaper models lose some value in competition with the new generally-premium models. A slightly staggered pattern would avoid this friction.

Engineering and production balancing:

Many models launched and developed in quick succession increase pressure and stress upon the company. Individual internal introduction of models takes much more pressure off production reps while covering up all models' perception of quality.

Future and novel form factors as well as testing mediums:

Then, if it aims to release its first foldable iPhone at last, it would probably consider foldable and premium separately with the revisions.

What Does That Mean for the General Users?

Models may not all appear at once.

If you are a premium lover (like wanting a Pro or Pro Max or foldable iPhone), you are the first batch.

A wait for the base model or the 18e or further iPhone Air will give you good worth upon their release at a slightly lesser price or with even better features.

Is iPhone 18 indeed the first major change?

So yes, since 3019 it has mostly been following a model of being all-in at a particular time of year, say September, and thus everything from launch events to marketing, production to supply chain, goes on all at once.

However, the plan for the 18 series, wherein first comes the premium and then follows the base model, shows that Apple, definitely in contrast with this "all-at-once" sequence, is now launching and marketing the models in stages.

Conclusion

The thing to note about iPhone 18 is not that it will be another new phone altogether, but the beginning of a new area altogether. Smarter and tactful launch calendars will then give Apple a much greater hold and focus while ensuring ahead in timing with the competition.

Nothing really changed all that much since 2019 for Apple so that some will even view this as their last from pre-2019, and iPhone 18 just might be the beginning of that new chapter.
