Apple is likely to showcase major platform updates at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025. The company could also offer a glimpse of the ultra-thin handset by Apple, the iPhone 17 Air. An image was shared on Apple’s website using the tagline “Sleek Peek,” mostly indicating the possible preview of the maiden iPhone 17 Air at the event.
Another Possibilities
There is another possibility that it might be about the visionOS-inspired interface updates that are expected to spread across Apple devices. The brand is working on a thinner iPhone that is expected to carry the “Air” branding from the iPhone 17 lineup. This new ultra-thin model is inspired by last year’s ultra-thin iPad Pro, which was measured at only 5.1 mm in dimension.
It is rumored that the brand will replace the Plus variant with this new Air model. Maybe the iPhone 17 Air will not launch at WWDC. It might include a preview of the design in this event, and the official launch is expected to happen in September, along with the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup.
Expected Apple iPhone 17 Air
The iPhone 17 Air is likely to be the thinnest handset by Apple. It will potentially feature a 5.5 mm thickness that will be narrower than the iPhone 6, which was only 6.9 mm thick. This holds the record still now. But to break this record, the new iPhone 17 Air will compromise on its hardware. It might have the biggest battery capacity.
According to leaks, the iPhone 17 Air could pack a 2,800mAh battery. Which is about 20% smaller than the standard iPhone 16 and 40% smaller than the iPhone Plus models. Which will be replaced by the iPhone 17 Air.
Another hardware reduction might be the camera setup. The iPhone 17 Air is likely to feature a 24 MP front-facing camera and a single 48 MP rear camera.
This smartphone is expected to feature a 6.6-inch display with ProMotion technology with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The camera control button will be included, which was introduced by the iPhone 16 Series.
The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be powered by the next-generation A19 chipset with the rest of the iPhone 17 family. It could feature the company’s in-house C1 modem, which was introduced on the iPhone 16e earlier this year.

The brand is rumored to include its major changes across the entire system of its Operating system, not just iOS. As per Bloomberg’s report, the brand decides to achieve a greater visual consistency across its devices. Inspired by visionOS, the OS will be powered by all the devices from this brand.
The future version of watchOS and the tvOS will use the glass-like user interface elements, redesigned icons, and updated navigation within the app.
