For today's gadgets, the camera is one of the most essential peripherals-it is not that it was just a photography tool; it is really a powerful multimedia tool in its own right. But Apple camera control curbs itself mostly to basic photography, and that's where huge numbers of users feel the pinch.

Video Control

What little control the iPhone camera has with respect to practical image capture, it has virtually none with respect to video control, providing hardly an easy or direct means to control major specs like ISO, shutter speed, and focus lock. Such shortcomings are disappointing to many content creators who vlog, shoot cinematic footage, or produce professional video work with their mobile camera dissatisfaction with Apple.

No Pro features on Apple iPhone

It may boast about the ProRAW and ProRes video recording features, but they always come at a price-limited to top-of-the-tier models. This means most users will never get a chance to experience those pro features. In contrast, several mid-range Androids on the Android platform also come with a Pro mode of operation with manual control so as to benefit more with photography and video.

Using third-party applications

Some people do use third-party applications, like Halide and Filmic Pro, in order to achieve that control. Given the restrictions mentioned above, such apps are rather expensive and require subscriptions in order to use all their features. If iOS had an advanced native camera app, many users could probably satisfy their needs with an iPhone camera rather than with another app.

Barriers for Creatives

Bigger media trends have brought forth a higher growth rate for the sector of video content creation. With the growing fascination for media platforms like TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels, it becomes all the more urgent for creators to get complete control of their camera. Apple is still lagging in this regard, resorting to a mostly photo camera; thus, one could argue it still sees its camera as basically a "photo tool."

As mighty as its camera hardware is, however, video control or software control isn't so flexible with it. Should Apple at some future juncture decide to integrate a more advanced camera control interface, it will woo many hearts, including those of photographers, videographers, and content creators.
